When my cat was 4 months old, she was bitten by my sister's adult cat. I mean this cat took three quarter size bites out of my cat's belly. I've not had my cat around other animals since the attack. Now she's 4 YEARS old and I need to board her at the Petco Pet Hotel while I wait for my condo closing to go through. They specifically ask if she's been bitten by other animals and I'm worried that they'll deny her entry b/c of this. MY cat has never bitten any person or animal, but I've had her at other people's houses and she hisses and growls at people. At the same time, I've had her at the vet every 6 weeks to get her nails trimmed and she's always a very good girl, but like I said she hasn't been around other animals and is really nervous when she's at other people's houses. When she's at home, though, she warms up to people within like an hour and is usually trying to get them to play with her. I've used every favor and boarding her is my ultimate last resort so if they deny her entry, I don't know what I'll do.

How many days are we talking about? Two? Three? A week? She'd be nervous no matter where she spent the time.

Why do you need to board her during closing? Do you have to get out of your house, or do you just have to get the cat out of the house?

Have you considered booking yourself AND the cat into a pet-friendly hotel for the period in question? At today's prices for pet hotels ($50-60 a night), you could get better rates at a human hotel, even w/the cat surcharge. Sources of housing (assume the "w,w,w" & the ". c o m"):

airbnb (search for cats-allowed; all kinds of housing);

PetTravel;

Petswelcome (lodges, cabins, one-shot motels);

Doginmysuitcase;

1clickpethotels;

TravelPets.

Call Petco Hotel & ask why they need to know if your cat's been bitten by another animal. Ask if they can accommodate a cat who's very afraid of other cats because she was attacked by a cat when she was a kitten; they may be able to put a curtain around her cage bet.play sessions - most hotels do this. The cats are not put in a group play situation unless requested by the owners, so she won't have to deal w/an uncontrolled cat when she's exercising.

Usually it's more important for the hotels if she's had a full set of tests. Has your cat been tested for Feline Leukemia & related cat viruses? That may be where the concern of the hotel comes from concerning animal bites (ask). They require a full set of shots, & the vet will recommend a couple of other shots that help prevent illness in a group boarding situation. You'll have to bring the vaccination print-out w/you when you book the cat in.

If Petco has too many obstacles, call the veterinarians in your area. There may be one that has a separate boarding-only facility (my last vet turned their old building into a boarding hotel). For a few days, even a standard veterinarian boarding situation may be adequate for your needs. Think in a flexible way. What's your own vet's boarding situation? Where do they keep boarding guests, & how to they deal with them?

A private boarding hotel may be more flexible (check them out for reputation). Work your way thru the phone book under Pets--boarding or Pets--hotels. Even if the boarding place is farther away, it's worth the drive.

Also go online & Google "pet hotels illinois [nearest large city to you]" for more sources.
