After "Googling" and finding this website, I am so upset to discover that chocolate is bad for cats. Without fail, at bedtime - 10:00 pm, our cat Ozzy knows that is Mommy's snack time. He literally attacks me, cries, talks in his his little voice, that he does actually have, eminding me that it is snack time, not that I would forget or skipped, I eat approximately six (6) small Kit Kats at bedtime. I bite the ends off, the chocolate part and his sucks it up. Our other cat, Dutch, will have nothing to do with chocolate at all. My husband bought a new brand of cat snacks and Ozzy would not eat them so my daughter layed a papertowel on the floor, put the snacks on the papertowel and literally put a drop of Hershey's chocolate syrup on the one's that were meant for Ozzy. He ate each one without fail! However, he will not eat them without the chocolate. Is he spoiled? Will he go through withdraw? Should I stop the chocolate immediately or gradually break him from the habit? Help! I need advise!

Chances are he is getting such a small amount that no harm has been done...yet. But if he were my cat I would stop right now, as chocolate is a diuretic and a cardiac stimulant in cats. And there is really no sure fire way to know how much is too much for any particular cat. Probably the easiest way to break his habit is for you to temporarily change to another snack, something that he won't want or something that is safe for him. Another thing to be aware of with cats (and dogs) is that a lot of people treats (even some breads and other foods) are sweetened with artificial products, some of which are lethal to them. Xlitrol (spelling might be wrong) is especially toxic.
