My cat always gets a thick amount of ear wax,I really don't think it's mites. She does make a loud crying noise when scratching. Do you think it might be a bacteria?

The vet has to look at it. It may be just chronically dirty ears, or it may be earmites. The vet can tell you & tell you how to treat it.

Ear problems can make a cat deaf. The cat has to see the doctor.

If cost is a problem, convince the vet to take payments over several months.
