I rescued a kitten from the pound last week. I estimate that he is about 3 weeks old. They were going to put him down because he needs to be bottle fed, so I took him. I've never needed to take care of a cat so that is so young. I still have to make him to poop and pee myself, even though he has started going on his own a little too. I got a bottle and formula and he has been eating REALLY well. I have tons of question's.

is it possible to over feed him?

he is peeing just fine but how much should he be pooping?

when can I start feeding him real cat food?

is it better to start him on wet or dry food?

I really could use some help and any tips I can get thanx

See the link for a basic primer on unweaned kitten care.

Also websearch, exactly as this is typed:

"Caring for Unweaned Kittens" astarbreeze

Astarbreeze is the domain name; this system won't allow more than one web link.

These should help.

Also, you can contact a local private cat rescue group & ask for advice.

Hi! I'm new here. I have some experience bottle feeding kittens. I guess you would have had yours for about a week now, and most of your questions are probably answered. Your kitten is adorable, and I would guess around 3 weeks in that picture.

Generally you should just allow him to eat as much as he wants at one time. He will stop when he's full.

He will probably poop about once a day. If he goes more than 2-3 days without pooping, I would be concerned. If he's not pooping you can give some hairball treatment, like laxatone, just a pea sized amount on your finger, to kind of lubricate things.

when can I start feeding him real cat food?

As soon as he is willing! Once he has teeth he might start showing interest in cat food.

is it better to start him on wet or dry food?

As long as he has his back teeth and is able to chew the dry kitten food, go for it. You might need to break it up for him or soak it in some kitten formula to soften it up. Wet food is fine too, but he might prefer either dry or wet so try both.
