I need advice about how to handle a stry cat I've been caring for over the past year. She is a wild cat, but over the past year she has grown very close to my cat. She follows him through the cat door and she eats from his food dish and sleeps on the foot of my bed every night. If I try to touch her, or get too close to her she bolts.

The problem is, I will be moving across the country soon. What should I do with this cat. I feel guilty leaving her here because I have been feeding her for a year and she is very close to my cat (they bump heads and cuddle). I also feel bad taking her because she has been living in this area (according to neighbors) for 5 years. This is the only place she has ever known. I don't wnt to put her through the trauma of a road trip and a new environment. I would be afraid she would run away and get lost. What should I do???

I agree that it would be a shame to abandon her. Would she be happy being a house cat if you took her? Maybe if kept inside for a while after the move she would still stay around you and your cat, they are smarter then we often think. If there is no other answer maybe your neighbor could take her under their wing or catch her and take her to a no kill rescue. There are many of them around.

Hope it all works out.

God Bless

I'd take her with you. Make her an indoor cat; she'll be motivated to be happy, since she's friends with your cat.

It may be best if she travels in a separate carrier, but with the grid doors facing each other, so the 2 of them can talk.

Make sure she's been tested for every contagious disease a cat can have, & has had her shots. Get her to the vet for a full workup before you leave.
