My response is to leya. I have a 2 year old shih-tzu named Tiramisu (\"Tira\") who sometimes dashes out the front door or escapes through my side gate that does not always self-latch properly after I have finished gardening. She will go across the street and I am worried she will run away or get hit. I will try training her using your technique and also fix that self-latch! She has not mastered the \"come\" command outside yet and I shoud work on that too because she does not come when I call her, but just lays down where she is (Sometimes in the middle of the street! Luckily it is not a busy street). One thing that helps is that she has several ID tags that jingle (my info, her license, AND her microchip info), so i can always hear where she is. i never let her outside unless I am there, so she never escapes for long before i hear her jingling outside the gate.
