we have a horse that constantly chews on the boards of his stall and yesterday, we found him on the floor of his stall and he seemed to be a little delirious and couldnt get up. it took him about 8 tries to get to his feet. he has recently lost weight because the other horses seem to pick on him and bite him, so we have been keeping him in the stable only..do you know if the weight loss could be from him not being in the field, and also, why is he constantly chewing on the boards...he does eat well for us when we feed him, but seems to be very week..any advice could help us because my husband isnt working and we really cant afford a vet..told that antibiotics could be harmful, that he just needs to eat more..what do u think???

when horses chew on boards its called cribbing. Most horses do it because they r bord. U can get a cribbing collar, which only helps prevent them from cribbing, but sometimes the collars dont work.
Cribbing can be harmful for most horses. Because when they crib they suck in air. This can cause teeth problems and digestive problems. i was reading an article once about cribbing on a website alphahorse. i hope everything turns out ok.
also, if the other horses pick on him out in the pasture, is there a way to divide the pasture in half or make another so he still can graze without being bothered by the others? jst a thought.
good luck
