Questions:

1) Is this a recent development, or has she always had this problem? If it's recent, then a visit to the vet is definitely in order. A 9 yr old Pug is more than middle-aged, there may be some condition developing due to the dog's age. If it's always been a problem, was a vet ever consulted about it?

2) Is the stool normal, not loose or too hard? And the right color - sort of a medium brown?

3) Does she stay inside the house pretty much all the time?

4) How many times per day does she poop, & at what intervals (every 3 hrs, etc.?) - both voluntarily & accidentally?

5) Do you actively walk her during the day? If so, how often? All dogs, even the little ones, should be actively walked outside the house several times a day. It gives them a wider view of the world, introduces them to unfamiliar things, & provides a chance to check in with the local dogs via liquid "messages" left on convenient trees & posts. And it trains them to poop outside. (More experience = a less nervous dog around unfamiliar things.)

Have you consulted with her veterinarian on the problem? If there's a physical problem, there may be a solution.

Do you walk her regularly? Get her used to going when you're out on a regular walk - with a Pug, you only need to walk her for 10 minutes or so, as her stride is so short, she'll get three times as much exercise as a larger dog in the same time period.

Small dogs like Pugs require more frequent pooping & piddling, as their systems are so much smaller - the food will work thru the intestines much faster than thru a larger dog's.

By getting her used to going outside on the walk, she'll be less likely to have an accident. I have a 40-lb dog who gets walked 4 times a day (the sitter comes in the middle of the day for one), & he poops at least twice a day, & sometimes 3 or 4 times. (I can't imagine where it's all coming from, he's been on a restricted diet for weight loss for the last 8 months.)

So, answers to the above questions/observations are where we can start.

In the meantime, to prevent a mess on the floor, you can get Puppy Diapers for her to wear, to stop the floor mess - check the pet store or online pet supply sites like CareALotPets & DrsFosterSmith.
