Sudden changes in litter box behavior can be one of several things. 2 of them are:
1) The cat has a health issue to do with the urinary or digestive system;
2) You changed brands of litter & the cat doesn't like it.
If you've changed litters, change back. If that's not relevant or the cat keeps going outside the box, take the cat to the vet for tests.
