urinating out of the box

My cat is nearly 10 years old, and has started urinating out of the box. What can I do to stop him?

Sudden changes in litter box behavior can be one of several things. 2 of them are:
   
1) The cat has a health issue to do with the urinary or digestive system;
   
2) You changed brands of litter & the cat doesn't like it.
   
If you've changed litters, change back. If that's not relevant or the cat keeps going outside the box, take the cat to the vet for tests.
   
Old cats often develop problems that affect litter box behavior.
