I don't know about most people, but I've certainly noticed in general that people want our canine friends to be loving and patient with children without the children learning proper respect for the cainine is in order to. I can't stress enough that parents should never allow their children to run, and I do mean run, to pet someone elses dog that is at the end of a lead in a busy place such as a walmart parking lot. Any place really for children to run up to a pretty dog can't be a good thing. just as dogs need proper training, children need to learn what is acceptable behavior when interacting with dogs. wouldn't you agree? What are the opinions of people on this subject?

People don't teach their children proper manners anymore...We all know this. About a year ago, I had just finished up a lengthy obedience session up and down the street with my juvenile German Wirehaired Pointer Angus, when a teenage girl ran, and I mean RAN up to Angus yelling "What a pretty puppy" !!! She literally LUNGED at his face with both hands flying at his muzzle "WHAT A PRETTY PUPPY" ! Well....Angus snapped at her, and I don't blame him...How would you like a total stranger lunging at your face ?!? Why on earth do parents not teach their kids even the basics anymore ???

lulu66 hit the nail on the head! Unfortunately, kids seem to be doing whatever they want, whenever they want, and parents don't seem to be teaching them manners or common sense. A child should NEVER run up to a dog, should NEVER try and pet it without asking, and NEVER stick their face in the dog's face. It's an accident waiting to happen. Unfortunately, the one who gets the brunt of it if the dog bites is the dog's owner and, quite possibly, the dog him/herself. That's the real shame.
