For 10 years...
He was at the door waiting for me....regardless if I was gone 10 hours or 10 seconds.
Sunday night, my Australian Shepard/ Chow mix was not where he was supposed to be, waiting at the door...my heart sank. My first thought was, I left him on the back porch...oh God, he'll be thirsty, but otherwise fine.
I wished he was there...He wasn't! At that moment I felt sick...why was he not coming to me? He wasn't an "old" dog. He was never sick...he was always my ray of sunshine. He never missed the opportunity to be held in my arms and loved, or to curl up in bed with me...all 50 lbs of him!
I went into the bedroom, there he was. In his favorite spot, on my side of the bed. He looked so peaceful.
You are...and will be, forever missed, Bailey...my little lambchop!

I just cried when I read your post. I can totally empathize. When we had to make the decision to put Sasha down... for months I keep hoping she would not have us make that final decision. I knew I could not be able to do it. As my husband and son drove away, I feel to the floor in a heap... I wanted to turn after her, yelling "Wait, she needs her sweater." For weeks, our house seemed to be in reverence. Our other dog stopped eating and was in mourning for months. I thought I was going to lose both of them.
For weeks following, I'd ask "Is Sasha up yet?"... forgetting she was not with us anymore. Every time I walked through the door she brought me her favorite toy. We rescued Sasha, but the truth is she rescued us... Click on the website below and then on the flickering star.
I know your heart is heavy, but I wanted to say thank you for giving your bed such a wonderful home and loving him unconditionally. We have so much to learn from our pets.
Peace.
