I am living abroad for the year (in Jerusalem, Israel) and I cant get the my favorite pet bedding that is manufactured with baking soda for odor control(sunseed brand, fresh world bedding). Can I just add Baking soda to any bedding to get the same amazingly odor free result? Will the powder irritate my bunny or is baking soda actually toxic to rabbits? Also can I use corn bedding intended for cats? He ends up eating the bedding. Is this unhealthy for him?

Don't use cat litter.

Don't add baking soda, the loose powder is bad for rabbits. Also anything else powdery (talc, flour, whatever).

Carefresh is a superior product; I used it for my gerbils, it's a great odor controller & it's been improved since I had gerbils around the house. It won't hurt the rabbit if he eats it. Amazon UK has it on their site, so you can have it shipped from relatively nearby. Also check any local pet stores, they may carry it on the shelf.

Thanks for your tip about Carefresh in the U.K. I ended up calling my vet in the U.S. regarding the baking soda. She said that using a little sprinkle is O.K. Also if he eats a little it's also O.K. I may use it moderation until I can find the right bedding. Thanks for your immediate response.
