Hi I am in process of adopting a pugX that is probably between 7-10yo. She is adorable and so sweet. She had to have surgery to remove a tumor (Fibroleiomyoma) which was benign but her previous owners never had it removed and it was interfering with her ability to pee. Has anyone else here adopted a senior or had experience with the above tumor? I am hoping it won't grow back. Thanks

I just adopted a 7 year old golden retriever from golden retriever rescue of mid florida. She had bad heartworms and skin and now I found (after having her a week) that she had a broken upper canine that is rotten. So off to the vet I went (I used to work at) Some tumors can return depending on how deep the core is and if they get it all out. Expect to have an e-collar (elizabethan collar) on your dog for some time. This is needed to keep he/she from chewing the surgery spot and to insure safe healing. It is a pain but it works. You can type in dog and the type of tumor to try to find out more about it and maybe info and tipa from others who have had experience with it. I love the older dogs and am glad to hear of others adopting them also. Enjoy the new "baby"!!

I adopted my Irish Setter when he was 81/2 years old. I will him 3 years come the end of the month.

He has had aspirate pneumonia twice and now is getting chemo for lymphoma. In spite of his medical problems he has been a delight and a wonderful companion. I know the odds of beating this cancer are not in our favor but I remain ever hopeful.

I am so happy to hear there are others who are willing to give seniors a home and the love they so richly deserve.
