i don't know much about guinea pig breeds. but i've owned many many guinea pigs, i have 2 right now. Each pig i had was a different breed, altho i don't know which breed they were. but all of them were sweet and loving and none of them ever bit.
but for children i would recommend a short haired guinea pig. Guinea pig was my first pet when i was about 5. They r great!

I would also suggest a short haired piggy...though they all make wonderful pets. Getting one at a young age will help them learn to be handled without much fuss. http://www.guinealynx.com is a very helpful website.
