Are anoles a good choice for a first lizard pet? (Lisa Fulton - Ohio)
Anoles used to be considered a very ideal lizard for starting out in herps. However, while they may indeed be easier to keep than some lizard species, do not consider them "easy alternatives". Only an enthusiast should even consider looking after these animals, as dedication and commitment is required to maintain their health and well-being. In particular, anoles are often subject to stress (especially if wild caught) and any minor change in their habitat and environment can impact heavily on their health.
